The Power Of Sharing Your Story
One of our fundamental beliefs about homophobia in the law enforcement profession is that laws, policies, and department regulations alone will not create the change that is desperately needed for our LGBT colleagues. We know from experience that the most powerful way to change the hearts and minds of those who don’t understand is to share your story. Our personal stories contain the most potent cure for hate. The law doesn’t have the power to inspire someone to come out, but your experience as told in your own words does.
Oscar winning screen writer Dustin Lance Black talks about this belief here. Watch and listen to his story. And then write yours and help change law enforcement for the better.
