FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Calling For New Stories
Greg Miraglia, president and CEO of Out To Protect, announced today the start of production for the 3rd edition of “Coming Out From Behind The Badge” and a call for new stories from public safety professionals across the country.
The new edition will feature expanded content to support LGBT awareness training for public safety professionals. This content will include updated history, a specific chapter on the AIDS pandemic, and of course, new stories from “out” professionals working in law enforcement, the fire service, and emergency medical profession. The new book will be used a textbook in several college courses and will continue to serve as a valuable resource for LGBTQ+ people working through the coming out process.
Everyone has a story to tell. The value of these stories doesn’t come from the extraordinary, but from living examples of how law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical professionals navigate being part of the LGBTQ+ community and “out” at work. We are looking for stories from all genders, nationalities, races, and ages.
You don’t have to be a professional writer to be part of this book and there are two different ways to submit your story. You can write your story from start to finish and submit it as one document or you can complete an online interview. With either option, we offer you a writing guideline to help you get started. We will take care of editing your story for grammar, spelling, punctuation and format. Our goal is always to preserve your voice.
The deadline for contributing stories for the new edition is July 31, 2021. All submitted stories become the property of Out To Protect Inc. Proceeds from the sale of books go entirely to Out To Protect’s scholarship and grant programs.
